Who are we?

Fishing into the Future is a UK Charity guided by active fishermen in collaboration with scientists and managers. We are dedicated to building sustainable, prosperous and respected UK fisheries for future generations.

We became a registered charity in January 2015 (charity number: 1160123).

We started life way back in 2012, when The Prince of Wales’ International Sustainability Unit (ISU), Seafish and the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) shared a vision to establish a new platform; one that would bring fishermen, scientists and managers together for the sake of the environment, the industry and society as a whole.

This collaboration resulted in the delivery of a unique event in Brixham in 2013, with attendance by HRH The Prince of Wales. This bottom-up approach was welcomed by the fishing industry as a good way of supporting the transition to wide-spread sustainable fishing practices.

The name of this workshop was Fishing into the Future – and the seeds of the charity were sewn.
