We started life following the direct intervention of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, who recognised the need to better harness the experience and ingenuity of fishermen in driving forward initiatives that support sustainable fishing practices.

Through the work of the Prince’s Charities International Sustainability Unit, along with Seafish and the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, a series of meetings was convened – with HRH the Prince of Wales in attendance – culminating in a large industry-focused workshop in Brixham in 2013.
The findings from this workshop (called Fishing into the Future) drove forward the establishment of the charity of the same name, and we owe everything to the early work and commitment of those involved in that process. We were officially launched as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (C.I.O.) in January 2015, and the rest, as they say, is history.
